I was in the game of my life. The ball sailed over the net and I bounced it high in the air. My team mate laid it up perfectly for my spike. I crunched my hand into a fist, and slammed the ball to the floor of the opposition court. WE WIN!!!
I opened my eyes to see Marlene holding her face and screaming. “What did you do that for?” “I’m so sorry, I was playing volleyball, and I spiked the ball.” I stammered in reply. “Volleyball? You don’t play volleyball, you don’t play any sports. Why did you punch me in the face? Are you crazy?” Marlene’s eye was turning red. She would have a shiner by afternoon. “Well, I dreamt that I was playing volleyball. And I was pretty good. I won the game.” I must not have been fully awake, as I was still reliving the game from my dream. “My eye is killing me.” Marlene went to the kitchen to get some ice. It was still the middle of the night and there were several hours before we had to get up for work. When she returned to bed, she hugged the far side, afraid of my next dream. In spite of the middle of the night excitement, we both drifted back to sleep. I hoped I could rejoin my dream for the post game celebrations. I awoke to a loud ringing in my ears. I grabbed the "receiver" from the bedside table and placed it to my ear. “Hello.” I whispered as my eyes opened to see Marlene glaring at me with her black eye, while I held the alarm clock to my ear. “It’s for you.” I muttered as I handed her the alarm clock. In spite of my big win, this was not one of my better nights. (306 words) 5/19 Entry for "The Writer's Cramp" Prompt: Write a COMEDY STORY or POEM about waking up in the middle of a very strange (but hilarious) dream. Tell us what the dream was about, and how it impacted you when you woke up. True stories or fiction are both welcome -- whatever you choose, just make it funny!
