Cereal Talk
Oh there is just no end to things that talk.
I listen to the TV and the ticking of a clock.
But I’ll tell you what I saw one day
Was how my cereal had something to say.

It didn’t go snap or crackle or pop.
It didn’t make a sound when I put milk on it’s top.
I never would believe that my food was very smart,
But there is something from the box that fell in mom’s grocery cart.

I wanted to dress so pretty, as I hopped right out of bed.
The cereal spelled a color word and I found a pair of slacks that was R-E-D.
I stirred the bowl so slowly and tried not to make a fuss
But before I heard the honking sound, the letters spelled out B-U-S.

On Tuesday, I was curious as to what I would do with my brother Tim.
The cereal and my brother said to me, at 4:00 o’clock we’d go for a S-W-I-M.
On Wednesday, I lost my glasses and couldn’t read my comic book.
But good old cereal knew that I left it in the sunny breakfast N-O-O-K.

Thursday was the strangest day, because I tore my brand new sweater.
Dear Aunt Carol sent my birthday gift and the cereal said that I’d be B-E-T-T-E-R.
On Friday I was really down as I waited for my final reply.
The cereal box was finished for good and all I could see was the last word G-O-O-D-B-Y-E.
