                                          Ghazal 275


Persian:  Padeed aamad rasoom e baiwafaaie
              Namaand az kas nishaan e aashnaaie
Urdu:      Hoie hay aam rasm e baiwafaaie
              Naheen milta nishaan e aashnaaie

English:=== Fidelity you cannot find anywhere
                  Love and compassion are also not there
                                              -

Persian:  Barand az faaqa peesh e har khaseesay
              Kunun ahl e hunar dast e gadaaie
Urdu:      Huay ahl e hunar itnay tahidast
              Keh phailaatay haen wo dast e gadaaie

English:=== For talent the people just don't care
                  The able and the worthy are poor everywhere
                                                -

Persian:  Kasay koo faazil ast, imrooz dar dahr
              Namibeenad zay gham yakdam rihaaie
Urdu:      Parha hay waqt aisa aalimoun per
              Unhaen milti naheen gham say rihaaie

English:=== Of leaning and teaching no one is aware
                  And the life for the learned is a long nightmare
                                                -

Persian:  Kasay koo jaahil ast, andar tana'am
              Mata e o bawad hardam bahaaie
Urdu:      Mila hay aish e daaim baihunar ko
              Hay jaahil ko mata e baibahaaie

English:=== A man who is wise does go nowhere
                  But the one who's foolish is a millionaire
                                                -

Persian:  Agar shaair bakhaanad shair chu aab
              Keh dil ra zo fazaayad rooshanaaie
Urdu:      Ager shaair kahay ashaar aisay
              Milay jin say diloun ko rooshnaaie

English:=== If a poet writes a verse so fair
                  That it is unique and beyond compare
                                                  -

Persian:  Babakhshanash jaway az bukhl o imsaak
              Agar khud filmasal baashad Sanaaie
Urdu:      Hay badzouqi zamaanay maen kuch aisie
              Naheen hotie kaheen us ki sunaaie

English:=== And when he reads it, people don't care
                  For him there's nothing left but despair
                                                  -

Persian:  Khirad dar goosh e hoosham doosh meeguft
              Baroo sabray bakun dar bainawaaie
Urdu:      Khirad kehti hay ab yeh faaziloun say
              Rahi tum ko na ger koie rasaaie

English:=== He has no choice but to grin and bear
                  The world to him is patently unfair
                                                -

Persian:  Qana'at ra baza'at saaz o meesooz
              Dar een dard o ina dar bainawaaie
Urdu:      Jolo tum shamay soorat teergi maen
              Karo mat shikwaha e bainawaaie 

English:=== To remonstrate he does not dare
                  He can't complain; he must forbear
                                                -

Persian:  Bia HAFIZ ba jaan een pand banyoosh
              Keh gar az pa bayafti, bar sar aaie
Urdu:      Karay jo sabr HAFIZ muflisi maen
              Usay pasti maen milti hay barhaaie

English:=== But HAFIZ of ours, who's wise and fair
                  He tell me always not to despair
