Even ram-rod straight, Puritanical John was moved by her pitiful sobs. “Mary…please. Don’t do this.” He reached out and stroked her blue-black hair. “I made a mistake. Haven’t…,” she cried, “haven’t you ever made a mistake?” I think I used them all correctly.
