I *Heart* U

I was flipping through channels and came across "The Blob." Not the remake, the original. The one with Steve McQueen. Of course, that was before he was "Steve McQueen".

My phone began buzzing just as the he was about to save the day, with a fire extinguisher no less. Not now, I thought. Reaching down to see who would call me during my show, I saw that it wasn't a call.

Hmmm, a message. Curiosity got the better of me as I flipped open the phone to see the message.

"I <3 U!" appeared on the display.

"What the heck..." My voice trailed off as the meaning sunk in.

With a slight flush, I wondered, Who would send me a message like that?

My imagination overtook reality as I thought of the cute girl I had met at school. I had given her my number and perhaps she had been overcome by my charm.

I looked at the message again. The sending number was 555-521-2347. That number seems ... Hey!

"Mom , what's your number?" I yelled.

"521-2347," I heard her answer.

"Not funny!" I yelled at her.

Mom came into the room. "What are you talking about?" she asked.

"This!" I showed her the text and was surprised by the blank look on her face.

"That's odd," she said. "My cell's in the car. I think someone's playing tricks on both of us!"

We hurried out to the car.

On the front seat sat Mom's phone... and my cat, Pickles.

"What did you do?" I said in mock sterness, reaching in through the open window and picking Pickles up. In response, she began to purr.

"Well, you know what they say about monkeys and typewriters!" Mom's voice was laced with laughter.

"Yeah," I giggled. Rubbing Pickles' head, I whispered, "I love you too."
