Ode to Summer
a poem about summer

I remember, I remember
the Spirit of my Fathers;
the smell of prairie flowers,
the feel of wind on their face;

I remember, I remember
the Spirit of my Mothers,
a bee humming in the flowers
was music to their ears;

I look to the wild places
and my heart is filled with joy,
I drink the dew on the leaves
and my spirit is sweetened;

The earth lies dreaming in the sun
as I sit and meditate,
The sun dies blazing in the west
and the long summer's day is done.
