MA’AM, PLEASE........
Ma’am, please give me a quarter, So I might buy some bread. I am hungry and thirsty, No morsel I have had. Mom told me never to beg But now she is no more. She would somehow have fed me Ssomething I am so sure. My dad left us long ago And now she has left, too. If I don’t beg I will die Of hunger, that is true. I don’t have a place to sleep The night is dark and cold. Like a dog with dirty wounds, All shun me, young and old. Ma’am, you have a noble heart And have my mother’s face. Give me a quarter and He Will bestow on you grace. * Written in abcb, 7-6-7-6 format * Initially written as entry 406198 in Miscellanea, "MISCELLANEA" M C Gupta 12 February 2006
