PART 1
As you choose modifiers, think about the questions that each sentence leaves unanswered. 1. The lean competitor slaughtered the race. 2. The shocked girl screamed. 3. The slender guy delivered a huge box. 4. I saw the teens’ car hit the empty truck. 5. The compliant boy did his chores. PART 2 The apartment was predictably fashionable right down to its beaded curtain and Tiffany-style lamp fashioned from a kit. The faint exotic smell of incense, waffled the air, accented the Oriental carpet spread with large floor cushions and the posters, showing faraway places and fog-shrouded beaches, hanging plentifully on its bone white walls. Pine shelves with brick spacers, held paperback books, lead the eye to the cluttered corner where stacks of records and tapes were piled next to the portable stereo in want of a new cartridge. The odds and ends furniture sported a floral covering overstuffed chair, a sleep sofa that had seen better days, a pair of bent-wood chairs and a small kitchen table that doubled as a desk. Sandy’s first apartment, across town, didn’t begin to compare with this one.
