The magic of her deceased grandfather's talisman, that Heike keeps in her purse to feel him near her, calls out to Martin. Then, her admiration for her grandfather and his venerated career as a grand wizard would need to be explained.

Heike's old boyfriend could make an appearance, cause a difficult scene and require her to explain about that past difficult relationship to Martin and others.

More simply along the same line, she could receive some communication from the old boyfriend that she would have to justify.
