Perspective
I'll never understand the mind of a fourteen-year old girl.
"C'mon, Bekkah. Let's get going."
Tearing her eyes from her DSi, Bekkah glared at me.
"Dad! I was going for level 16," she huffed.
"How about trying for level 1 in life?" I threw back. "Listen, please. You promised you'd help."
I could see her mind working. Bekkah has this ability to spend hours thinking of ways to get out of fifteen minutes worth of work.
I saw the slot machine in her brain ring up three matches across. "But you have to get hay for your horse," she smiled. "You can just pick up a few bales for Snow Moon, can't you?"
"True," I said. "But they've just opened their vegetable stand. I'll get the hay, you pick out the produce and that way it won't take long."
Surprising me, she agreed and I spent ten minutes trying to figure out how I'd lost that battle but couldn't.
The stand was open as we pulled in. I walked over with Bekkah to see what was in season and was pleasantly surprised to find a large stack of red, sweet tomatoes.
"They're fresh off the vine," the lady behind the counter said, pointing to a garden area.
"How much?" asked Bekkah.
"Fifty-cents, each."
Bekkah looked at the field.
"Would you sell me some green ones?"
I suppressed a grin. I could tell by her tone that her mind was working again and I curiously waited to see where this was going.
"Well, I guess so."
"How much for those?" Bekkah asked in her little girl, innocent voice.
"How about a quarter each?" the lady offered.
"OK, I'll take a dozen."
As the lady began to get up, Bekkah added "I'll pick them up next week."
I'll never understand the mind of a fourteen-year old girl.
