                                    Ghazal 286


Persian:  Sahergeh rehraway dar sarzameenay
              Hamiguft een moamma baa qareenay
Urdu:      Baham soofi thay do ik sarzameen maen
              Kaha ik nay ba gosh e humqareen maen

English:=== One day a mystic said to his friend
                  That it's hard for him to comprehend
                                            -

Persian:  Keh aey soofi sharaab aan geh bawad saaf
              Keh dar sheesheh bamaanad arbaeenay
Urdu:      Keh aey soofi, rahay sheeshay kay ander
              Toe mai hoti hay saaf ik arbaeen maen

English:=== Why the best-made wine only rarely clears
                  Without being in the bottle for forty years?

Persian:  Gar angust e Suleimaani nabaashad
              Cheh khaasiat dehad naqsh e nageenay
Urdu:      Na angusht e Suleimaani rahi jab
              Rahay kya khaasiat naqsh e nageen maen

English:=== Even the Wisdom of Solomon is of no use
                  If something good it doesn't produce

Persian:  Khuda zaan khirqa baizaar ast sad baar
              Keh sad but baashadash dar aasteenay
Urdu:      Hay us khirqay say baizaari Khuda ko
              Hazaaroun but houn jis ki asteen maen

                  Has so many idols up his sleeve

Persian:  Daroonha teera shud, baashad keh az ghaib
              Charaaghay barkunad khilwatnasheenay
Urdu:      Charaagh e ishq roshan ker Khuda ya
              Andhaira hay dil e khilwatnasheen maen

Persian:  Murawwat garcheh naam e bainishaanast
              Niaazay arzeh kun bar naaznaanay
Urdu:      Murawwat yuin zamaanay maen hay unqa
              Ho jaisay aajizie ik naazneen maen

                  Our pride has made us deaf and blind

Persian:  Sawaabat baashad aey daara e kharman
              Agar rehmay kuni bar khoshacheenay
Urdu:      Bhar us ka daaman aey dara e kharman
              Bohat hay bainawaie khoshacheen maen

                  Instead of giving, they like to snitch

Persian:  Namibeenam nishaat o aish dar kas
              Nay darmaan e dilay, nay dard e deenay
Urdu:      Na dil maen amn, nay taskeen jaan maen
              Na hay deen qalb maen, nay qalb deen maen

English:=== And there's no mercy, love, or compassion
                  And the faith and trust are out of fashion

Persian:  Agarcheh rasm e khoobaan tundkhooiest
              Cheh baashad gar basaazi baa ghameenay
Urdu:      Hay gercheh rasm e khoobaan tundkhooie       
              Na taab ab kuchh rahi qalb e hazeen maen

                  In the bosom soft there's a stony heart

Persian:  Dar e maikhaana baksha ta bapursam
              Ma'al e haal e khud az peeshbeenay
Urdu:      Dar e maikhaana khul jaay toe daekhoun
              Ma'al e haal jaam e paishbeen maen

                  And all this talk we should simply scrub

Persian:  Na himmat ra umeed e sarbulandiest
              Na daawat ra kaleed e aahaneenay
Urdu:      Naheen dil ko umeed e sarbulandi
              Dua baibus hay qayd e aahineen maen

                  For even our prayers don't have a chance

Persian:  Na HAFIZ ra huzoor e dars e Quraan
              Na daanishmand ra ilm ul yaqeenay
Urdu:      Na HAFIZ ko shaoor e dars e Quraan
              Na aalim ko yaqeen ilm ul yaqeen maen
