Flair For Writing
The 60's
Editor: Princess Megan Princess Megan Rose 10 Years
Assistant Editor: Angel Angel

Greetings Everyone! How are you? Summer is approaching Indiana and Illinois. Yes! Angel completed a Medical Transcripts Course so she can do billing and work in insurance. Way to go, Angel! I do a lot of scrapbooking and The County Fair will be here soon. I am going to put two of my scrapbooks in the Fair. Wish me luck!

This newsletter is about The 60's. I am sure we all remember The 60's. I was hoping that ones who receive the newsletter would contribute a memory or an item but Angel and I will tell you about The 60's. Have a seat and we will get started.

These are Angel's 60 Memories. Angel has this to say:
Hello everyone. I will tell you what I remember about The 60's. I was ten years old living in a house with nine of us, five girls and four boys. It was a noisy house. My Dad was gone most of the time so Mom had to take care of us. Well, most of the time. She was involved with a club and Church so we had to have our older sister take care of us. At times she was terrible. She was a mean step sister at times and other times could be real nice. She would close the curtains and make the house very dark. She would light up candles and dress in a long gown and said she was a vampire. So we had to stay quiet and listen to her scary stories and very tense piano or organ music. She was a very good actress and she was a seventeen year old teenager.

More about The 60's things I don't remember. I had to do research.

The unemployment rate was 5.5%. A McDonalds hamburger was 15cents. A brand new Chevrolet was $2,529.00.
In the sixties, we all watched the same television shows like: "Father Knows Best", "Leave it to Beaver" "Bonanza"
Baseball greats were: Willie Mays, Roberto Clemento and Bob Gibson. In 1960, Chubby Checker cane out with his famous song "The Twist." Most of us watched "American Bandstand. In 1964, we had The British Invasion: Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, Herman's Hermits.
Okay. That is all for now. I hope you enjoy this newsletter. Big Hugs to all of you and I wish you the best of life!

Wow! Thanks, Angel. Megan here I love the part about your sister dressing up like a vampire. That is a good one. I have a lot of memories, too.
I remember when McDonalds hamburgers came out. There was no Big Macs, fish sandwiches, nuggets or deserts. Just hamburgers. Dad would buy a dozen at time and that was our dinner for Mom, Dad and me. Dad was in the Air Force and I got to see President Kennedy getting off the Presidential plane. President Kennedy waved to the crowd. I loved JFK, Jackie, Carolyn and Jon-Jon.My parents and I lived by Washington, D.C. We saw the astronauts Grissom and Young in person.

I wished that I had been older in the 60's. I wanted to participate in Peace marches. I was born in 1955 so I wasn't even a teenager then. Remember Bob Dylan's war protest songs? Abby Hoffman was a rebel and a war protester. I wanted to join him. Dad went to Viet Nam three times and the Viet Nam War has a connection for me because of Dad.

Remember hippies? They wore love beads and flower clothes. They were all about Peace. Who could forget the clothes of the 60's? Bright flowered items, mini skirts and Go-Go Boots! I loved my Go-Go Boots! I thought it would be fun to be a Go Go Dancer!

Remember the Barbie Doll? I love Barbie. She was my best friend. I loved my Chatty Cathy Doll, too. Remember the jingle jump toy and slinkies? There was Willie. The over sized yellow worm made out of a big pipe cleaner with buck teeth? I loved him, too. The trolls. Naked little guys with long hair. Weren't they cute? Remember the game Twister? That was a fun game.

I loved the music of the 60's.The Beatles. I am glad they came along and changed Rock and Roll. They were so cute and I loved their two movies. The first record I owned was a Beatles album. We all loved the Rolling Stones. The Mamas and Papas. I loved how Mama Cass dressed. Some people liked The Beach Boys but they weren't my favorite. We all rocked to Jimmy Hendrix "Purple Haze." That song sure fit the era. Two guys I like were: Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. Who didn't love the song" I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight? They also wrote Monkees songs and the Days Of Our Lives Theme. They were so cute.

How can we forget the TV Shows? Batman, Green Acres, Gilligan's Island, The Man From U.N.C.L.E", Peyton Place", Twilight Zone, The Big Valley just to name a few. Peyton Place was the first prime time soap. I loved Ryan O"Neal and Barbara Perkins. Green Acres, everyone was backwards. Sounds like the town I live in. A farm town in Indiana. On Gilligan's Island. With all those people that landed and visited, surely someone would told someone who could have helped them get rescued. Can you believe all the clothes, records, books and items they took for a three hour tour? They were better off then Survivor! I could have lived on Gilligan's Island!

TV Shows of The 60's
A poem about TV shows of the 60's.
by Princess Megan Rose 10 Years

60's Movies. There were some good ones. Like James Bond's movies. Sean Connery. I always loved him. He was a great James Bond and age looks good on him. Remember Easy Rider? I loved Peter Fonda. I still do. Easy Rider made Steppenwolf's song: Born To Be Wild a favorite of motorcycle gangs. One biker told me that years ago. Breakfast At Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn is a favorite of mine. I just loved her. The Graduate was a good movie. Bonnie And Clyde. I loved that movie. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. This when I fell in love with Robert Redford.

Some other events of The 60's. John Glenn was the first man to orbit the moon. Walt Disney died but his movies and Disney Land live on. The first heart transplant was performed in the 60's. Woodstock. The most talked about Rock and Roll Event ever.

Angel and I hope that you have enjoyed this 60's Newsletter. We will be doing The 70's Newsletter next month. If you have anything to share, please e-mail me or Angel. Until next time, Peace and Love!
