PITFALLS OF WATCHING THE CLOCK! First Pitfall of Watching the Clock is that it's never right for me,as far as I can tell!.I broke its darn band years ago; now it just won't run, out of meanness I suppose! Maybe it needs a battery--I sure could use one too, to make my life fly right again--I've already straightened it up, like my mother always commanded! You see, I've always been too boring to really need to straighten up!! Second Pitfall of Watching the Clock is that it always tells me when the chaos of my life will begin each day. Not the chaos of getting out of bed--I have resigned myself to the fact that that time will never be on MY schedule again in this life! No, I mean the greater chaos of family coming through the door, looking for food to eat and respite from their too-much days! Like that's something I can give! Third Pitfall of Watching the Clock is that it reminds me of how long it will be before you come home, before I can quit feeling lonely and start feeling safe again. Before I can quit crying my hot allotment of sad, wet alone-ness for the day and start being understood for myself and not just by my sometime-illness! Oh gosh--I've almost missed it--the time to get my minute-steaks on!! A fitting dish for a clock-watcher!!
