Part l - Create new sentences, using parentheses

1.  Write 2 sentences using the translation rule.
His doctor prescribed a medicine called Mirapex (helps with restless leg syndrome, but is originally for Parkinson’s disease).
Her mother, Mrs. Graham, has what the doctor call Osteoporosis (a disease that leaches calcium from the bones).

2.  Write 2 sentences using the Who's He/She? rule.
Stacy claimed her Professor (former state representative, John Kelly) died suddenly of a heart attack.
Peaches (my aunt Barbara) liked to shop till I dropped.

3.  Create 2 sentences with parentheses incorrectly used and show the same sentences corrected.  Irritant rule
McDonalds mascot {Ronald McDonald} is such a sharp cookie.
The parsonage (the preachers house) is up for sale.


4.  Using the Pronoun Aid rule, write 2 sentences.
She (Miss. Caro) and Mr. Smith are engaged to get married.
His (Mark’s) teeth need straightening.

5.  Write 2 sentences with Nickname rule.
Wolfgang (Yep) called his doctor for an appointment.
Cameron (Cam) brought those red rose petals to the party.

6.  Create 2 sentences using parentheses for the Location rule.
Yuma, (AZ.) is a mountainous state.
The Sears Building in Chicago (I’ll.) used to be the second tallest building in the United States.

7.  Write 2 sentences using the Conversion rule.
The recipe calls for two ¾ cups (1 ½ cups) of butter.
Shredding the whole brick of cheese makes 4 cups (16 ounces).
The package says there are 8 -1/4 cup servings (2 cups) in this 8 oz. brick of cheese.
