Shimmering
travelling along a road

                                                        Shimmering

Air clings like warm caress
I begin on this road.
Winged insects buzz and flutter
I understand this road.
Green yawning canal swallows the parched ground
I feel this road.

My companions' steps are soft and creaky
We know this road.
Golden orb of the sun to light our way
We sweat on this road.
Blue sky speckled with birds
We feel this road.

Heat grows in anger
Many lessons on this road.
Not a destination in sight
Many ghosts on this road.
Our skin is punished by the rays
Clarity whispers along this road

Now the road stretches on
comforting to us
all fears and doubts lie dying in the ditches
pause on the serene road.
pain and suffering are familiar
but a new direction lies in this road.

A new day borne from dust
I am on this road.
Places and people
I understand this road.
unwalked hills and plains
this is my road.

And I begin again.
