July
You never know what summer days will bring.

I remember July.
Sun rays teased pale, bare skin
as I skipped down the street,
not a care in the world,
not knowing who I’d meet.

I remember July.
Freedom filled my senses,
feeling grateful for life.
Young and invincible,
no time for thoughts of strife.

I remember July.
You crept up behind me,
covering my blue eyes.
A gasp escaped my mouth,
with laughter and surprise.

I remember July.
A boy with clammy hands
stole my heart with his play.
Right then I knew the truth,
I'd marry him someday.
