Truly I’d never experienced
A sight so divinely pristine As the first time I laid my eyes on The waters of pale emerald green. I knew from that very moment, That although there was no “before”, Somehow there would always be “after”. That I’d always be part of the shore. Though many years hence since I saw it, I can still feel and taste and smell Those initial moments in my life The sea captured me into its spell. A mysterious muse of perfection Ever-changing, yet always the same. It beckoned me “Come ever closer,” While the sea gulls now called out my name. The pounding surf caressed my body. The tranquil swells lifted my soul. The vision of motion before me Calmed my psyche and made me feel whole. It mattered not how I spent time there, Whether swimming, sailing or just Sitting poised alongside its shoreline. I felt much more alive and nonplussed. Whenever it came time to leave now Forever bereft to depart, Sadly I’d bid long, lengthy farewells, Then I’d leave a small piece of my heart. Each time I return I am certain One day no returning there’ll be, At least not in body but spirit Forever to be one with the sea. 32 lines
