Solstice

Around and around the moon dances,
         silver light slipping over the earth,
         drawing as close as she can, glowing with affection.
Around and around the earth dances,
         a blue-green orb wrapped in gossamer clouds,
         leaning to and fro as she twirls around the sun.
         spinning in concert with her cousins on a planetary necklace.
Around and around the sun dances,
         a fiery star sending out life-giving light,
         a steady star, one of billions in the glittering Milky Way.
Around and around the people dance,
         welcoming back the sun’s golden light,
         rejoicing in the moon’s silver glow,
         hearts beating with the pulse of the universe.
