| Chapter 5 'Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, If you don't come back, I will kill you.' All my love, Bobby Coral read the message that had been sealed in an envelope and put under her door. With it came a boquet of red roses that she threw away as soon as she got in the house. How did he find her? Suddenly feeling unsafe, she made sure the doors and windows were unlocked. She constantly looked out the window, making sure no one was watching her. "Did you send the flowers Tony?" Tony looked at Bobby Fischer and smiled the crooked smile that meant he knew something Bobby didn't. "Boss, you should have seen her look when she read the poetry." "Yes, well you sure are the poet aren't you." Scoffing, Bobby got up from the chair and went to the window. "Tell me, where is she living?" "Her parents' house." Bobby laughed that evil laugh that showed just what he was. "I knew she would go back there." After a brief second that stretched the older mans already short life, he said, "You know Boss, she was looking pretty good." Tony watched with terror as Bobby slowly walked to him like a predator on the prowl and turned a knife in his inspecting hands. Without any hesitation, Bobby swiftly stuck the blade in the man's heart and watched as Tony's life drained from his eyes. After a second, Bobby let him drop to the ground and walked back over to the window. In a trance like state he said, "I will have her back." Turning around to leave he took the knife that was still lodged in Tony and cleaned it, putting it back in his waistband. Tony Parker had just got out of prison for killing a woman and her child when he was seventeen years old. Who knew thirty years later he would be given the same fate that he gave his victims? What was the saying? Eye for an Eye. "Hi." Coral heard the familiar voice and smiled, trying not to let him see it. When she say anything she heard him say, " Coral?" Turning around, she stared at him. "How do you know my name?" "Word travels fast remember." he said smiling. "Yeah I remember... Max." Max held questioning look as to how she knew his name. "Word travel fast?" "No, your name tag. I seen it the first time I went to the store." Smiling, she asked, "What are you doing here?" "Going to see a movie just like you." Seeing the smirk on his face, she knew it wasn't just a chance meeting. "Next in LIne." Coral walked to the older man sitting behind the glass and said, "One ticket for Quarantine." "That'll be..." The man was cut off short when Max walked to the window and said, "Two tickets please." he didn't see Corals scathing look as he handed the man the money for both the tickets. Max held open the door as they both walked inside.Once inside, Coral grabbed Max's hand and pulled him aside. "If you wanted to hold my hand that bad, you should have just told me." "Max what are you doing?" Max watched as she crossed her arms and knew that when a woman did that she was either cold or she demanded an answer, and he doubted she was cold. "I thought maybe we could get some popcorn, hold hands, then makeout when the lights go out." "Max thats not funny!" Coral said, making her way to the theatre that held the movie she was going to see. Running to her he said, "Coral im sorry ok, I just thought maybe we could see a movie, and maybe get something to eat afterwards." Coral finally looked up and saw the way he hooked his thumbs in the pockets of his jeans. She noted the youthfull hairdo which left a strand on his eyebrow, Burgundy button up, his cuffs rolled up to his forearms. Blue jeans that always seemed to look irresistable on him, and his eyes. Those eyes and body had haunted her many times in her dreams. Now as she looked at him, she saw the familiar smile graze his face and the white teeth shine from behind his lips. Looking down slightly, she saw the noitceable cleft get deeper in his chin and felt a sudden urge to put her finger there. Lifting her hand to his face, she touched that cleft with her index finger and wasn't prepared for the shock that rocked throughout her body. Looking into his eyes, she saw the smile within fade and a small fire explode that made her body sizzle. He felt it too. Coral heard the huskiness in his voice when he asked, "You alright?" No. Coral shook her head signaling that she was alright and they made the rest of the way to the theatre in silence. Coral was thankful for the darkness that hid the blush that stained her cheeks. After finding a seat in the middle, they sat down and watched the previews. Max looked at Coral and watched as the lights danced on her hair and features. She had worn her hair down, he suddenly wondered what it would be like to run his hans throught that mass of unruly curly hair. She hardly wore any makeup, he liked the natural look. Making his way down her body he took in the pink blouse that made her creamy skin look good enough to eat. Her black skirt and legs that were encassed in a sheer pantyhose. He remembered the way it sounded when she walked beside him, it drove him just about crazy. "What?" Coral had noticed that he had been watching her. Clearing his throat he said, "Oh nothing, I thought I saw someone I recognized." Smiling, she said, "MmmHmm." If she was to learn anything in her life, it was to never say 'MmmHmm' to a man that had just been caught checking a woman out. The rest of the previews and movie her hand was held captive between his own. When the movie was over, she hadn't remembered anything except the warm hand that seemed so big compared to hers. Walking out of the theatre he asked, " You want to have dinner?" "Sure." "Okay, why don't we take our own cars and meet up, what do you say?" he said smiling. Coral noticed then, that she loved it when he smiled. She felt that same heat spread through her everytime she saw that dazzling smile strike his face. "Okay, I'll follow you." Coral pulled up to the restaurant and got out. She saw Max standing near a porch that spanned the front of the older style restaurant and walked to him. Walking into the restaurant, Coral recognized the smell of homemade spaghetti and garlic bread that made her stomach remind her how hungry she really was. Looking at the hostess, she felt that somehow she knew her from somewhere. Almost instantly the hostess and Coral came to realization and Max heard the gasp from both the woman. "Oh my God." It dawned on Coral like a buket of water being thrown at her. After Coral and Max sat down at the table, he looked up at the woman that held a menacing look at Coral. It reminded him that if looks could kill she would probably be dead. The woman had red lifeless hair that was pulled back and showed off the wrinkles that spanned over her young, but old looking face. She was too skinny, and her breasts too large for her frame. Looking at the womans face again he saw the smile that made him think of a woman that belonged on a corner and felt somewhat sorry for the woman. Coral watched as the hostess looked at her then at Max and snickered, then all but threw the menus at both of them before walking away. "What was that about?" Coral acted like she didn't hear him and held the menu in front of her. When she heard him say her name, she knew there was no getting out of this one. Putting down the menu, she looked at him from across the table. She knew she had to start from the beginning and dreaded it. Taking a deep breath she started, " I met her one day in class, when I moved schools. She had invited me to sit down beside her during class. She showed me around the school, I had lunch with her and her friends and all the days after that. We soon became really good friends and thought we were on cloud nine. Well one day this boy showed up at school... Bobby Fischer." Coral involuntarily shuddered. " He was eventually my first kiss and soon my boyfriend. After Highschool we decided to get married and I thought everything was great. Until all the cheatings, beatings and Loretta Heart came along. I remember on our wedding day she came wearing the scantiest red dress I had ever seen. Of course Bobby was all eyes, But why shouldn't he have been, that was his mistress." Coral laughed a sad laugh and looked down at her hands. " But one night he came home drunker than a skunk and was itching for a fight. I ended up locking myself in the bathroom, and asked myself how I got into that mess. I decided right then and there that I had to leave and got myslef out. But before I did I ..." Coral looked at Max and held her breath. "About three months before, I got divorce papers and all I needed was his signature. I know it was cruel, but I woke him up enough to sign the papers. I had to get out of there and I knew he wouldn't have remembered it the next morning." Coral hadn't realized she had started crying and hurredly wiped the tears away. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have dumped all of this on you on our first date." "Oh so it is a first date then, so do I get a kiss at the end of the night?" Laughing and crying at the sametime she said, "No." Max looked at the woman sitting across from him and thought she was beautiful. Taking her hand, he held it to his mouth and kissed it softly. "I'm sorry Coral, you didn't deserve any of that." Later after they were both done with there dinners they walked out of the restaurant hand in hand. Max walked Coral to her car and watched as she unlocked the door. When she succeeded in unlocking the door, she turned around and to her astonishment was kissed by Max. She felt his arms glide over her back and hold her close to him. At first his kisses were hard, but when he felt her hands in his hair, he softened the kisses, making them persuassive. Coral slowly felt her conscience leaving her. "Wait Max." Max lifted his head and said shyly, "Sorry Coral, I'm moving too fast." Sighing, Coral wrapped her hands around his waist and layed her head against his chest. She could hear the hurried hearbeat in her ear and wondered if he could hear her heartbeat where he stood, because she felt hers was about to explode. She slowly ran her hands up his back and felt his muscles ripple under her fingertips. Coral could smell the cologne that was uniquely his waft through her nose and into her senses. "Thank You Max." When he let go of her she saw that cocky look that seemed to live on his face and wondered what he was up to. "For the kiss or the dinner?" Again Coral watched as he sauntered away towards his car. She smiled. |
