Music In The Background
A poem about half-waking and its effects.

This item requires reviews with ratings.
You hear music in the background,
then laughter and a group of people
having a casual, fine time.
You hear soundsof alcohol:
bottles chinking, ice striking
insides of glasses and the few voices
of those who keep coming back
for more a little too fast.

You're half-asleep as you think
what kind of party are the neighbors
having at this time of the night?
But then you sit up and the din of
the music, voices and the party
clear from your head.

You don't remember dreaming anything
similar to that but there it was in your
half-state. It makes you wonder what
would have happened if you had just laid
there longer just to hear
what would have happened.
