I was relieved to finally get out of office. All day my mind had only been thinking about my pretty bride. Newly married, we had just returned from our honeymoon that morning. Due to exigencies at the office, I had to leave for work immediately, leaving the poor creature to fend for herself in her new abode.
I found myself humming all the way as I drove home, planning an evening of love and laughter. It was with such fond expectations that I rang the doorbell of my house. She opened the door after what seemed ages. “What happened baby?” I asked, shocked at her disheveled and tensed appearance. I pulled her towards me. She recovered slightly and flinging her arms around my neck, started sobbing disconsolately. “What is it Alice?” I asked, wondering what had caused her such distress. A burning smell forced me to release her and rush to the kitchen, where a vision of chaos and confusion greeted me instead of the spick and span room, I was accustomed to. I let out a deep breath as I surveyed the upturned utensils, burnt food, a smoking microwave and oil on the floor. “I wanted to cook you dinner. This isn't how I thought it was going to be. I am sorry.” Alice sounded worried. That voice melted away all my annoyance. Turning, I took her in my arms.”Relax honey. We will go out for dinner,” I said, caressing her hair. “You are not angry?” she asked wide eyed. “I can never be angry with you,” I smiled, kissing her with ardor. “I am so relieved darling. I love you so much,” she relaxed, returning my kiss. My heart overwhelmed with tender emotions as I vowed to never ever hurt this vulnerable creature. My beloved bride. Word Count:298
