Human Nature
A poem written about the pitfalls of human nature

God made this world in six short days--
The sun, the moon, the heavens--
And all the wonders in between,
He rested on day seven.

If we could in six days on earth
Accomplish six tiny feats,
What would we do for humankind?
Whose standards would we then meet?

A helping hand offered on day one,
Might fulfill a neighbor's need.
What would you expect done in return
To satisfy selfish greed?

And, going on to day number two,
Fatigued, would you need to rest?
After all you did yesterday,
You are tired and think it best.

Day three dawns bright, and on this day,
You share time with an old friend,
Who's having some financial strife.
You find ways to help him spend.

Day four finds you deep in yourself.
You're not having a good day.
Someone has made you really mad!
You'll get even in your way!

Quickly, the fifth full day arrives.
And, you feel you're on a roll.
You've earned the time to have some fun!
No time for winning lost souls.

Five days of work have passed you by.
The last of six is next.
But, you spend time with your TV
Watching films rated XXX.

With day seven finally here,
It's time you should relax.
You look at Neighbor Jones' new pool,
And envy the things you lack.

A full week of days you have had.
Many chances came your way.
If He came right now to visit you,
What to Him would you say?
