I started a new life today, for all my sins were washed away.
The old, sinful me has been replaced, through God's mercy and His saving grace. I met the Savior face to face, and found Him in the strangest place. A place that I had seldom been; that I never thought I'd venture in. For it was filled with people there, who would condemn me and not care For someone who lived my kind of life, filled with darkness and mortal strife. I had lived my years in the fast lane, on a path to hell. I've felt the pain Of loss, and sorrow and rejection, too; discouraged by everyone that I knew. A constant party, or so I thought, filled with earthly pleasures bought By sin-filled wages. I'd paid the cost. I was utterly and completely lost. Satan knew I belonged to him. A sinner full of countless sins. So packed with self and crammed with hate, I was in line for Hell's wide gate. One day, when I was at my worst, I sought the God that I had cursed. He sent an answer to my cry in the form of a kindly passerby. This man approached me on the street, and asked me if I'd care to meet Someone who would my burdens share, if I was bold enough to dare To believe that Jesus was God's son; that He died and rose for everyone, Even a lost wretch like me. He died there upon Calvary. He saved all men from lives of sin, if we would only enter in His kingdom and forever more, repent from sin and sin no more. I said, "It's a hard thing you ask. To give up habits is quite a task. I've broken all of God's holy laws. He can't want me with all my flaws. I've stolen, lied and cheated, too. I've done more than any man should do. Sins of the flesh and of the vine. I've hurt more families than mine." This man smiled, and then said, "Son, you are not the only one Who has ventured down this tortured street of sin and sorrow and near defeat. Once I stood right where you are, but now that time seems very far Away from my life as it is now. Listen, and I will tell you how God saved a sinner, that was me, from Hell's fiery pit of eternity. Through Jesus Christ, I came to know a Savior who did love me so That He gave His spotless perfect life for me. It was on the cross, He set me free. I was no stranger to carnal sin. I'd broken laws now and again. Drugs, alcohol and gambling, too. There was no limit to what I would do. But, Jesus saved me, this I know. He washed filthy me as white as snow. He gave me hope; He gave me peace. My wrongdoings had to cease Existing in my wretched world. Inner change began to grow and swirl. I wondered what it would be to have a Christian family. Then, I began to visit church. Found fellowship for which I'd searched. Some of those folks were just like me. They'd lived as sinners, too, you see. And one thing that they understood, there are no degrees of sin nor good. For sinners' sins are all the same. You can come clean, be free of shame. And goodness has no boundary lines, for good means goodness all the time. So friend, I want you to clasp your hands, and pray with me right where we stand. Ask clemency for what you've done. Accept Jesus Christ as God's own son. Commit your life for Him anew. He will constantly be there for you." So I came to know you, Lord. Your thankful servant now assured. I started a new life today, for all my sins were washed away. The old sinful me has been replaced through God's mercy and His saving grace. I met the Savior face to face, and found Him in the strangest place, A place that I had seldom been; that I never thought I'd venture in. No more aimless now will I here roam. I'm Heaven-bound for my new home. And while I walk God's earthly land, I'll share His wondrous saving plan! Admit, believe, and then confess! Jesus Christ has done the rest. He hung upon a cruel cross. He died for all souls who were lost. He died so sinners, just like me, could live for all eternity. He's waiting to redeem you now, just listen, and I will tell you how. 56 lines
