Song of Tehran
my tribute to the brave people of Tehran, Iran.

Today a nameless rebel was slaughtered overseas.
My TV gives statistics and all I see is hands.
The spectacle is broadcast in the "Land of the Free".
All the while I wonder, "Where's the freedom in their land?"

Did it overlook them as a dove forgets its nest
Leaving millions beaten, drained, and utterly bereft?
Did it close its mammoth wings in perfect tyranny
Leaving them on their deathbeds without a remedy?

Did it fade in disrepute and wither ceaselessly,
rendering their liberty a time-worn leafless tree?
Or did it yield this beastly greed before justice's stare
rationing prosperity amid all the despair?

Did it feed its fledgling young in hopes that they will soar,
And nurture vulnerability buried 'neath their manly roars?
Did revolution grab her child with heavenly reprieve,
delegating change so all on earth are greatly pleased?

Where's these people's freedom?
I demand it mightily!
For freedom of the few is not the freedom fit for me.
