"The White Cot For Me"
Pale she lay in a cot, dreaming a new day.

Strapped in the baby seat
dressed in a woven shawl;
a bird in the cage to coo
why do you love me?

A nurse holding my arm
a needle in me to sleep
dreaming away the fear,
where are my parents?

Dad’s tears in his eyes
trying to fake a smile
from the pain within
helping to hold me,

then falling on the floor
gasping out for breath
seeing me in the cot
pale and afraid to die.

I wake the morning
waiting all alone,
too tiny to cry
why all the tears

when I can see -
Angels in the sky
singing to Jesus
waving a smile.

Dad and mom
their Christmas tree
with ornaments,
healing presents for me,

living in a family room
through heaven's door,
dressed in silk pajamas
a white cot there for me.
