Dreary Day Lament …

(This poem was inspired by the LOVELY weather that has plagued us for most of our short and soggy summer! )

Apollo, you light up the sky
Oh worthy Ra, from up on high
And Helios, with golden glow
You have deserted us below.

Why do you hoard away your gold?
Your treasure’s not one we can hold.
This twilight causes much dismay;
Mere mortals need the light of day.

Have we committed some great sin
That makes you hide your light within?
We’ll offer chants and prayers, amen
If you’ll return the sun again.

Perhaps a virgin sacrifice?
Or would a fatted calf suffice?
Some fruits and nuts? Give us a clue!
We need to know what we can do!

I guess we’ll give you one more day.
Meanwhile, we’ll chant and plead and pray.
Tomorrow, if the clouds ain’t fled
I guess we’ll have to call Con Ed!

(Note: "Con Ed" is the abbreviation for Consolidated Edison, which is the major utility company for New York, plus parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Thus, it is a LIGHT company!)
