The Stinkin’ Princess If only I hadn’t ignored the words My wise old pappy said I wouldn’t be court jester I’d be the king instead. If I had only listened To what my pappy said My bed would not be dirty rags But silk pillows for my head. If I had only listened To pappy’s wise exchange I’d live within the castle walls With peacocks on my range. My pappy always told me To wed above my rank To court the daughter of the king But oh my, how she stank. So here I lie in my bed of rags On common city streets. I should have held my nose instead, And climbed into her sheets 20 lines
