Tales of Full Moons' Past
The moon is for lovers

  "Tales of Full Moons' Past"

July's moon was especially moving;
full, bigger then life.
As I rode back in the car,
from a wonderful day.
I spent all that day,
staring across the Chesapeake.
My, what can I say?
Jo's gone,Roe's gone,
Barb and Sue gone:
is the list that long?

But the moon remains.
As lovers ask why and cry,
or stand close beside;
beautiful orb in the night's sky;
to each it's own; that is why.
Glistening down on me,
you were there too;
always there with me,
when you were full.

But who do I miss the most?
Faces like ghosts?
It is you and I my love,
don't you see?
My hand in yours,
under the moonlit sky.
I believe all lovers and love,
have gone to the moon.
When it shines bright,
we are all together again,
like a long lost friend.

I  wrote this for you,
all of you---- you know.
Though distance separates us,
it is the full moon drawing us back.
Can you feel it, my dear?
You and I so near?
Like when we first met,
the moon so full,
your life with me a jewel.

So lets pretend again,
join my hand and sit here;
with an old friend.
The summer air cool,
I draw you close;
a kiss; a whisper; words undone;
and then , yes, the full moon.

s.a gibbins July 2009

P.S. Yes it's you dear. You will look up at the moon; a tear will form like the one in my eye.
Because at sunset is where our heart is.
