Hush



Feelings, like sheer veils
whispering in time's zephyr,
drift within, casting shadows
before my eyes.

Bright colors fade,
diluted by goodbye's tears.
Coalescing hues of gray
ink memories within my mind.

In the reticent blackness,
I strain to hear the melody
that absence has suffocated;
only an aching stillness remains.

I find my hands reaching,
covering my heart in a vain
attempt to capture what
once was ...
                  but is no more.

In the dark quiet, I listen
  for a heartbeat ...
      for the sound of hope ...

and hear only echoes of silence.
