                                  Ghalib Urdu 1


Urdu:  Naqsh faryaadi hay kis ki shokhi e tehreer ka
          Kaaghzi hay pairahan her paiker e tasweer ka

English:===O what has been written do not decry
                  And accept your fate; it's futile to cry
                                            -

Urdu:  Kaway, kaway sakhtjaaniha e tanhaaie na pooch
          Subha kerna shaam ka laana hay joo e sheer ka

English:=== The nights are long, and lonely are you
                  Your life is hell; this you cannot deny
                                            -

Urdu:  Jazba e bai ikhtiaar e shouq daekha chaahiay
          Seena e shamsheer say baahar hay dam shamsheer ka

English:=== Her long eyelashes are like the swords
                  They are eager to kill and surely not shy
                                            -

Urdu:  Agahi daam e shuneedan jis qadar chaahay bichhaay
          Mudda'a unqa hay apnay aalam e taqreer ka

English:=== And whatever she says you can't understand
                  Her words are mysterious; they so mystify
                                            -

Urdu:  Bas keh houn GHALIB aseeri maen bhee aatish zaer e pa
          Moo e aatishdeeda hay halqa meri zangeer ka

English:=== And I know you're restive, O GHALIB my friend
                  But you are a captive of a charming eye
