I Remember the Sun
3rd place Stroll Down Memory Lane Sometimes life doesn't work out as we plan

In my mind, I remembered the sun
As it shone on the shimmering sand.
The waves as they gently rolled over
Making foam that caressed the land.

The sea oats softly were swaying.
In the light breeze they danced to and fro.
I’d hop on my trusty red Huffy,
And off to the beach I would go.

I vowed that I’d always stay there.
Be a part of that glorious place.
But life doesn’t always oblige us.
Especially, when dreams we will chase.

It was there that I met my soul mate.
It was there I became a wife.
It was there that I packed all of my things.
And from there I began my new life.

He traveled the world with his career.
In exotic locations we’d live.
Over time there developed a chasm
Caused by distance too wide to forgive.

Soon alone, I tried hard to forget him,
To begin a new life of my own.
I had so much emotional baggage.
I had traveled a long way from home.

Devastated, I moved from the mainland,
To return to my home at the shore.
But, I found I was sinking deeper
In a sea of self-pity and more.

Awash in oceanic abandon
I thought I could never exist
With the failures that I had encountered.
These doubts were too strong to resist.

With effort I made my way back there.
My purpose I had now resigned.
As I thought of a happier lifetime,
I remembered the sun, in my mind.
