I look at you, O child of mine
And wonder what you’ll be Long years from now, when you are grown, And gone away from me. Will you become an astronaut A doctor or a nurse What occupation will you choose? What lands will you traverse? Will you find your own true love? Will you have children, too? I pray that you will always know Just how much I love you. My life expanded when you were born To heights and depths unknown. You gave me joy in my heart More joy, I’d never known. You are a part of one true love Composed of two separate parts; United for eternity, You hold both of our hearts. When you are old and I am gone Remember, for it’s true, That you were loved , O child of mine, And loved, because you’re you!
