                                           CHICKEN STORY

“A chicken?  You can’t keep a chicken in the house!”

“Why not, Mom?  It’ll be a lot less trouble than a dog.”

“Do you know what to feed a chicken?”

“I got some chicken feed for it.  They eat anything.  Look I made a little pen for it and I’ll keep the pen clean.  You won’t even know it’s here.”

“I already know.  Besides, don’t chickens like to be with other chickens?”

         “I could get another.”

         “No! Don’t do that. “

“If I take care of it myself and it’s no work for you, why do you care?”

“Because when the novelty wears off it will be like the hamster and the turtle and the parakeet, it will end up being my chicken.”

“I will take care of it, Mom.  And when it starts laying eggs    I’ll share them with you.”

“What makes you think it will lay eggs?”

“It’s a chicken, Mom.  It’s what chickens do.”

“You have made a number of mistakes.  First of all a chicken is not a pet, it’s livestock and does not belong in the house.  And the biggest mistake of all -- this one will never lay an egg.”

“Sure it will.  It‘s just not old enough yet.”

“I tell you, this bird will not lay eggs, not if it lives to be a hundred.”

“How can you be so sure of that?”

“Listen to it!  Chickens that lay eggs do not go cock-a-doodle-doo.  You got yourself a rooster here.”.
