                              Ghalib Urdu 4


Urdu:  Dil mera soaz e nihaan say baimahaaba jal gaya
          Aatish e khamoash ki maanind goya jal gaya

English:=== Oh, I'm in love; my heart is on fire
                  And it has consumed my being entire
                                        -

Urdu:  Dil maen zoaq e wasl o yaad e yaar tak baaqi naheen
          Aag is ghar maen lagi aisi keh jo tha jal gaya

English:=== The wreckage of my heart is so complete
                  That it has no memory, no hope, no desire
                                          -

Urdu:  Maen adam say bhee paray houn warna ghaafil baarha
          Maeri aah e aastsheen say baal e unqa jal gaya

English:=== My flaming sighs could consume the world
                  But now I'm nothing; my condition is dire
                                          -

Urdu:  Dil naheen, tujh ko dikhaata warna daaghoun ki bahaar
          Is charaaghaan ka karoun kya, kaarfarma jal gaya

English:=== And once I could also light up the town
                  With my raging fire and my burning desire
                                            -

Urdu:  Arz keejay johar e andaesha ki garmi kahaan
          Kuchh khayaal aaya tha wehshat ka keh sahra jal gaya

English:=== I could also reduce the wild to ashes
                  By simply intending there to retire
                                            -

Urdu:  Maen houn aur afsurdagi ki aarzoo GHALIB keh dil
          Daekh ker tarz e tapaak e ahl e dunya jal gaya

English:=== And even though, GHALIB, I'm all burnt out
                  The pity of the world I'll never require
                                          ====
