Laying on my back
Along a wide, flat branch, I watch a deep blue sky turn white As clouds float and fly to fill it up. Tangled limbs and leaves Make lace for me to watch through And when summer showers begin to drip The tree stops most of it before it gets to me. I am warm here Cradled in the crotch of this old oak. This house grew slowly, Taking much longer to reach today than me. Breezes tease my hair, Blowing the rain damp out And the gnats on their way. I think I’ll stay here all day.
