The ocean

beckoning
curls of white foam
draw me in
to be reborn
cleansed by salt
and scrubbed by sand
til I glisten as the sea.

moving on
but yet the same
yesterday
and tomorrow
never still
always waiting
here for me when I return.

my soul longs
to feel the waves
cradle me
and gently rock
back and forth
until my thoughts
are clear for dry land again.

The form requirements for the Whitney are as follows: 7 lines with a syllable count of 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, 7.
