Our Children are On Loan From the Lord

On Loan

So very much like us they are,
in what they do and say.
Blood of our blood, flesh of our flesh,
we must direct them as best we may.

Desiring the very best for them,
giving as we should what they ask.
To guide them wisely to adulthood,
is our most heartfelt, important task.

With herculean effort and patience,
our responsibilities we musn't bemoan,
The ones that we help raise and shape,
Not ours, but from the Lord on loan.

Standing before the Lord one day,
with our charges by our side,
It is our hope that we succeeded,
in a task we accomplished with pride.

Take care then mothers and fathers,
how you raise your daughter or son.
Be hard-pressed for them to excel,
knowing that you did a job well done.
