“Come on, it’ll be fun!” David urged his girlfriend.
She crossed her arms in frustration. “But I don’t want to go to the county fair, it’s stupid!” She complained, her voice a dull whine. “Well I do,” David urged. “Come on.” He tugged her by the arm. For a few moments Janine stood stock still, her small frame resisting David. Eventually she allowed herself to be led from the house. The bus journey took around fifteen minutes and then they were there amongst a throng of people wandering down home-made aisles comprised of sheep in pens, hens clucking and rides and stalls. Janine still looked unimpressed. “Here, I’ll buy you a lemonade.” David offered and handed some money over to a vendor who exchanged it with a cup of fizzy soda. She drank it quickly savouring the taste, already looking a little happier. At least she wasn’t complaining as they walked anymore. “I want to play on the tombola.” She called out a small grin on her face. “Okay but I only have enough money for one ticket.” Davd told her regretfully as they stood at the stall displaying teddy bears and candy and toys. He knew he'd have to get her the ticket. The woman behind the stall looked at David with kind, smiling eyes. "Here honey, take a ticket, see if you can win anything." She held out a hat and Janine dipped her hand in, pulling out a pink ticket. She opened it with an element of excitement. Her eyes began scanning the treats on the table, "I got 130." She told the lady. "Here's your prize young lady." She told him as she handed over a huge teddy bear. Janine had a grin on her face all the way home. Word count: 294
