                                Ghalib Urdu 11


Urdu:  Shab keh burq e soaz e dil say zehra e abr aab tha
          Shola e jawwala her ik halqa e girdaab tha

English:=== With my fiery heart in such a form
                  My flowing tears are causing a storm
                                          -

Urdu:  Waan karam ko uzr e baarish tha inaangeer e kharaam
          Giryay say yaan punba e baalish kuff e sailaab tha

English:=== She says she cannot come in rain
                  For my crying had caused a hurricane
                                          -

Urdu:  Waan khudaaraaie ko tha moti pironay ka khayaal
          Yaan hujoom e ashk maen taar e nigeh naayaab tha

English:=== She makes me cry, that callous girl
                  For her a tear is much like a pearl
                                            -

Urdu:  Jalwa e gul nay kya tha waan charaaghaan aabjoo
          Yaan rawaan mizhgaan e chashm e ter say khoon e naab tha

English:=== My tears of blood are a source of glee
                  For jewels and rubies she likes to see
                                            -

Urdu:  Yaan ser e purshoar baikhaabi say tha deewaarjoo
          Waan wo farq e naaz mehv e baalish e kamkhaab tha

English:=== And while she's sleeping in a cozy bed
                  She wants me to cry and bang my head
                                            -

Urdu:  Yaan nafas kerta tha roshan sham e bazm e baikhudi
          Jalwa e gul waan bisaat e sohbat e ahbaab tha

English:=== With my awful rivals she loves to play
                  While I sit and watch in great dismay
                                            -

Urdu:  Firsh say taa arsh waan toofaan tha moaj e rang ka
          Yaan zameen say aasmaan tak soakhtan ka baab tha

English:=== And she lives in Heaven, that infidel
                  While here I'm burning in the fire of hell
                                            -

Urdu:  Naagahaan is rang say khoonaaba tapkaanay laga
          Dil keh zoaq e kaawish e nakhun say lazzatyaab tha

English:=== And with a charming look she throws a dart
                  That jabs, and stabs, and wounds my heart
                                            -

Urdu:  Naala e dil maen shab andaaz e asar naayaab tha
          Tha sapand e bazm wasl e ghair, go baitaab tha

English:=== And her my rivals when they try to seduce
                  My howling and crying are of no use             
                                              -

Urdu:  Maqdam e sailaab say dil kya nishhaataahang hay
          Khaana e aashiq mager saaz e sada e aab tha 

English:=== And then I shed the tears of blood
                  And with my tears I cause a flood
                                              -

Urdu:  Naazish e ayyaam e khaakisternasheeni kya kahoun
          Pehlo e andaisha waqf e bister e sanjaab tha

English:=== My poverty and need I don't try to hide
                  For in lofty thoughts I take great pride
                                                -

Urdu:  Kuchh na ki apnay junoon e naarasa nay warna yaan
          Zarra, zarra rookash e khursheed e aalamtaab tha

English:=== And although people think that I'm mad
                  I feel so great; it's not at all bad
                                                -

Urdu:  Aaj kuin perwa naheen apnay aseeroun ki tujhay
          Kal talak taera bhee dil mehr o wafa ka baab tha

English:=== For this captive now she does not care
                  But there was a time when she was loving and fair
                                                  -

Urdu:  Yaad ker wo din keh her ik halqa taeray daam ka
          Intazaar e sayd maen ik deeda e baikhaab tha

English:=== And though she was a predater and I a prey
                  She used to pursue me night and day
                                                  -

Urdu:  Maen nay roaka raat GHALIB ko wagerna daekhtay
          Us kay sayl e girya maen gerdoon kuff e sailaab tha

English:=== But GHALIB tells me I shouldn't cry
                  Because I can drown the earth and the sky
