Better Health Care, or Republican vs. Democrat
AUGUST 1, 2009
The following is my first amatuer political article and a critique of the existing state of the Health Care Debate, not to be projected as fact.
It's all over the news. depending on what station you watch, you will see one side advocating for the institution of Barack Obama's new health care system, or you will see a vigorous opposition. However, I find it hard to believe that no one can see what is really going on here, as plain as day.
When I turn on the TV, I hear nothing but negative comments about the Health Care Bill from Republican's. Not just parts, the entire thing. They seem to give no quarter, no leave, no room for reasoning. They want the whole thing trashed, and a new plan re-built. People will then argue that the Republican's just want to go slower and review the bill carefully. I think this is just smoke. The Republicans will retard the progress of this bill till it falls backwards and down the hill. They want to hurt what appears to be the current "flagship" of the Democratic administration, and more importantly (to them) Barrack Obama who is a symbol of that administration.
My favorite part is that all the time while denying the methods of Barrack Obama's strategy on Health Care, the Republican's have not really offered a strategy of their own.
- they comment on how much money is spent on this plan, but the problem has no means of a "cheap" solution, so far reaching it is over the american populace. In my opinion, what is happening is that in a review of the current american health care system, such grave errors and problems were found that major reform on all levels was needed to simply begin to sort out the problems of the Health Care system. My one concession is that I would advice a slower approach to this tactic. the money is a massive sum and therefore has a massive risk along with it. In truth, what I see is an all-or-nothing strategy by the administration in which they go in willing to solve the problem with all there support based behind one specific strategy. A plan should never be a solid plan, nor a singular one. It is fluid and changes from the moment of its execution to try and meet the shifting and variable elements of chance. However, the problem is politics is all about perception. The view of slowing down might be seen as weakness or defection to Republican pressuring and the Democrats are unwilling to let such a thing slide. We all know the Republican's would jump on any sign of a weakening stance in a heartbeat. Thus he pushes on with the Health Care Bill as is.
- they claim that the Bill is too complex and that they can offer a simpler soltuion. In truth, the Republicans do not really give details on their own suggestions of plans for the Bill either. They say privitization over centralization, but is that right for this current situation. Privtization is what led us here in the first place. I have never understood how something as vital as life insurance and health care- basic needs for the population- can be handed over to private BUSINESS'S. The goal of a business is not the welfare of its clients. It is the accumualtion of profit. how can you hand over the well-being of the american public to those who will do whatever it takes to maintain or even elevate their profit margin. I do not advocate the elimination of private insurance and Health Care firms. It just seems only fair and necessary that there be an impartial, fair service available to the public at large who may not be able to afford the weighty sums for private health insurance. Just like lawyers, there are people who are given lawyers by the government who cannot afford private health care. It isn't going to be the best service around, but it is there for those who need it. At the same time, it is not an obligation for everyone to take the basic form of health care it provides. This is simply a standing option for those americans who find themselves in need of the basic health care they cannot provide for themselves.
Overall, I think the Republicans are simply in an all-out attack mode on this bill. They have no real solutions themselves. They say there,s a much simpler solution to the current crisis. Oh my God. How weird. You mean to tell me for the past eight years, you have always possessed a far simpler solution to the crisis and not employed it yet. Wow. If things were so simple, then why are we in the state we are in now. No, what they are doing is blowing smoke in your face. Obviously, there is no simple solution to the current economy. The decisions that have to be made create other decisions and other problems that must be weighed against the greater good.
In conclusion, instead of helping the Democrats or even acting like they belong to the same country as the other, Republican's and Democrats are at war with each other, and currently, the Health Care Bill is the Battleground. Instead of toning their aggression down towards the other side and quietly comprimising the bill to meet whatever legitimate arguments they may have about it, they beat up a whole stink cloud over the matter and inflate it as a massive media event in which they tell American's that this Bill will spell doom for America. They are acting like political terrorists spreading fear and doubt to the nation about this Bill to further their own goals. These words were not chosen loosely, because the Republican's have evoked fear in the form of 9/11 to scare the country into voting for McCain.
I, by no means, claim the Democrats are the White Knights of our country. But at present, I believe the current debate over Health Care to be a degrading view of the American political system. One that shows the deepening gap between Washington and the American people. The Grand Old Parties former chant of "Country First" and "USA" now, as it had, appears to be a sickening hypocracy to the more obvious "Us first, Us later."
