                                Ghalib Urdu 16


Urdu:  Hawas ko hay nishaat e kaar kya, kya
          Na ho merna toe geenay ka maza kya

English:=== An eternal life we'll all like to grab
                  But life without death will be dull and drab
                                          -

Urdu:  Tajahul paishgi say muda'a kya
          Kahaan tak aey saraapanaaz kya, kya

English:=== About my pain  she doesn't want to know
                  And even when I tell her, she only says - oh!
                                            -

Urdu:  Nawaazish ha e baija daekhta houn
          Shiakaayat ha e rangeen ka gila kya

English:=== And when she's kind, I lose my pain
                  I feel so happy I forget to complain
                                            -

Urdu:  Nigah e baimahaaba chahta houn
          Taghaafulha e tamkeenaazma kya

English:===And when she gives me a saucy look
                  I feel very certain that I'm on the hook
                                              -

Urdu:  Faroagh e shola e khas yak nafas hay
          Hawas ko paas e naamoos e wafa kya

English:=== To love and fidelity in sharp contrast
                  Our lust is fleeting and does not last
                                              -

Urdu:  Nafas moaj e muheet e baikhudi hay
          Taghaafulha e saaqi ka gila kya

English:=== Oh, the maid of the bar when she gives me glance
                    I need no wine to go into a trance
                                                -

Urdu:  Dimaagh e itr e paraahan naheen hay
          Gham e aawaargiha e saba kya

English:=== For the scent in the air I do not care
                  The fragrance of her dress I can smell everywhere
                                                -

Urdu:  Dil e her qatra hay saaz e aanal behr
          Hum us kay haen hamaara poochhna kya

English:=== Oh, how she controls my every emotion
                  For I'm only a drop, and she is the ocean
                                                - 

Urdu:  Mahaaba kya hay, maen zaamin, idhar daekh
          Shaheedaan e nigeh ka khoonbaha kya

English:=== And when she comes to take my life
                  With a look she does it; she needs no knife
                                                -

Urdu:  Sun a ghaaratger e jins e wafa sun
          Shakist e sheesha e dil ki sada kya

English:=== And then I beg her not to depart
                  And listen to the timbre of my breaking heart
                                                -

Urdu:  Kiya kis nay jigerdaari ka daawa
          Shakaeb e khaatir e aashiq bhala kya

English:=== Oh, a lover can venture; a lover can dare
                  But he has no patience; he cannot forbear
                                                  -

Urdu:  Yeh qatil waada e sabraazma kuin
          Yeh kaafir fitna e taaqatruba kya

English:=== She makes a promise, and throws me a bait
                  But comes she does not, and I wait and wait
                                                  -

Urdu:  Bala e jaan hay GHALIB us ki her baat
          Ibaarat kya, ishaarat kya, ada kya

English:=== And when she flirts, she's very, very coy
                  And, GHALIB, to her I 'm only a toy
