Self-Betrayal

My lips that did not perceive
Yours were speaking lies
They were busy expressing and feeling

My hands holding yours did not know
You held another in your thoughts
They were too busy leading you to me

My back did not feel the knife
While your hand was upon it
It thought you were directing me to happiness

My ears did not hear the truth
Only your words of half-hearted affection
That they yearned to hear each day

My precarious heart didn’t feel the beating
That was inflicted by your duplicity
It was to busy dancing to love’s music

My eyes only saw the best in you
They did not see you looked elsewhere
They were locked into the illusion that was you

I was a co-conspirator in all of it
But I chose to ignore everything
Betrayed by my own self.
