NEW PROMPT: Write a short story or poem about accidently bidding on a wooden box at an auction. You didn't really want it and spent way too much money to get it, but once you got it home and opened it you found... What did you find and was it worth the money?? The story/poem can be in any POV. MY EXPENSIVE AUCTION WAVE Went to an auction on a whim; it was my first time there. The auctioneer held up a box--it was one of a pair of good-sized boxes made of wood. I saw a friend and waved at her; I didn't know that's how auction bidders behave when they buy something they've chosen! I bought the pricey box without knowing I had done it--an unfortunate shock! I took it home, just horrified by my unlikely act; I spent too much, but then I heard, when shaking it, a crack, as though there were something inside the box from its past life! I looked, and found an old necklace and ring, both wound up tight as though they'd been forgotten there! I called the auctioneer to see if they had lost the loot--but then it became clear to me that it was I who owned the stuff that I had found! And now I've kept that pretty stuff--I'm wearing it around!
