I walked into the Good Day Sunshine
bar feeling pretty depressed. I called out for the bartender, Rocky Raccoon, but there was no answer. I should have known better than to come in here for a drink. Yesterday, Rocky was really something. He had been fixing a hole in the bathroom where one of his regulars, Eleanor Rigby had shown up the night before and tried to break into the bar. Apparently, she came in through the bathroom window thinking she could just help herself to a drink any time at all. So, as a result, he had this "Don't bother me" attitude, and now today it didn't look like it was going to be getting better anytime soon. It looked like he wasn't going to come out of that bathroom for no one, so I yelled at the top of my lungs, "Rocky! I call your name, but I've got a feeling that you don't care if you sell me a drink or not. You can't do that to me, man. C'mon...Help!"

Rocky finally popped his head out from around the doorway to the back bathrooms. "Man...I'm so tired, I've never done so much work in one day in my life!" he continued, "I want to tell you, I think I'm gonna sit right down and cry, man, I mean, it's all too much!" He ducked around the corner for a moment, saying, "I'll be back. He returned in a flash, holding a shiny hammer. I said, "That looks like Maxwell's," to which Rocky replied, "Yep...that's Maxwell's silver hammer."

I looked at Rocky and said, "I'm down, Rock. Julia left me. She's a woman who's got the devil in her heart. She was bad to me. I asked her what the problem was, and she said, 'Baby, it's you,' and home she went. She should be back in the USSR by now."

Rocky looked at me and said, "Well, my friend, just remember: All things must pass. You just need to find another girl. And you know, with your money, it won't be long before you find one. Baby, you're a rich man. Now, all you need is love."

"Rock, you know money can't buy me love. I'm going to miss that girl. You know, in spite of all the danger, I'd still love to get back with her just to have her hold me tight. I'm not really sure that I'm ready for a world without love."

Rocky poured me a drink. "Listen, do you want to know a secret?" I nodded yes. "Listen, from me to you: you are now free as a bird. Now, you can be here, there and everywhere without any hassle."

I downed my drink in two gulps. "I feel like I'm a loser, Rock. I'm in complete misery. Plus, I don't want to ever have this happen again. Not a second time."

"Listen, kid, you're not a loser. Just between the two of us, I think you know what to do. Listen, you won't see me telling you what to do, but I think for a little while you've got to hide your love away. For a while just go out and act naturally. Spend a little time with the boys, just because it'll be good for you."

"Maybe you're right, Rock. I'll be on my way. But, having been drinking, I'm not sure I should drive my car. Oh, what the heck, I feel fine. On the other hand, though, what if I fell..."

"Don't even think about it, Word" said Rock. "I'll get you a cab. It's a crazy drive back to your place. The long and winding road isn't the place for you to be tonight. You tell me why you would even risk it."

"Thanks, Rock. When I get home I'll give you a call. Good night, Rock."

Rock just nodded; otherwise there was no reply.

THE END
