The back-story:

Events:1
I looked down at my dust-covered boots as I headed out for my morning chores to come up short, before I rounded the corner of the barns. Two people were arguing, about taking some animals in to market. "Alex, is too much like his father. I tell you." "You're wrong about the boy, Joe, it's only his looks that your see'n." "If you believe he could do it why don't you take it to the boss." "Cause, you know how he will act about the whole thing, he thinks the boys too young yet to do that kind of thing." "The boy's like that old man of his, he would waist the cash then blame bandits, you know it as well as I do. That's the only reason you won't say anything, you're afraid he might prove me right."

Anger flooded my veins as I continued around the corner stunning the men into silence. What could I ever do to earn their respect? Even knowing Joe was raw about me taking a few of "his" shot-gun shells, to hunt coyotes, I still fumed. The shells were Granddad's. Joe had just put them in "his" area. Besides I just couldn’t help who my father was anymore than they could, the more I thought about it the more my blood boiled. I was determined to keep my mouth shut and put my anger into completing my chores.

Event:2
I entered the stable, getting ready to take Dale out for our time together, when I seen someone sneaking around the stable. I ducked down and headed quickly back to the house. I burst into the house and hollered to Granddad and anyone who could hear me about the intruder. They laughed at me, told me I was see’n things again. There couldn’t be anyone out there, cause the dogs would have let them know.

How could they not believe me? I didn't go about cry'n wolf or anything like it. Except for that time I seen the snake, and by the time somebody got to me it had crawled off.

I would prove I wasn't a liar. I grabbed my gun and loaded it and went out without any of them noticing me. They probably wouldn't even miss me if I weren't around. Everything always got done when I went to Ricky's house and no one ever mentioned miss'n me. I'd show'em.

As I stepped off the porch I found one of the Dogs, panting hard its eyes glazed over it was close to death, suffering. I knew if I was to shoot the dog though, whoever was in the barn would hear and take off. I had something to prove. I snuck around to the side of the barn trying to locate the fellow. I wanted to make sure before I just up and shot someone. Don't want to accidently kill some who's supposed to be here. As I was about to round the corner I caught sight of the man again. This time I could see him, what was not covered up. I croched down, seeing the moonlight reflect of his gun. I took aim and fired hoping he was alone.

I watched as the man fell to the ground not moving. Two things happend then, the scream that came from around the area the dog had been and a click of a gun somewhere close by me. Before I could move the barrel was pressed to my back............
