SOW'S EARS TO SILK PURSES

Sow ears to silk purses,
They say it can’t be done.
But necessity is invention’s mom,
And my pennies are hard won!

So I’ve turned  into a magician,
And a bit of a con-artist too.
With a wing and a prayer,
And coupons everywhere,
We've learned how to make do!

Now my home isn't glamorous,
With a courtyard or a jacuzzi.
But as long as the old couch,
And the cushions hold out,
Then you designer's will,
Just have to excuse me!

You can stick your nose up,
At our thrift shop threads.
But the price was dirt cheap,
And we don't have to sleep,
With bills hanging over our heads!

Fancy cars are an elegant ride,
And my car may be out of shape,
But as long as it's seat,
Doesn't fall into the street,
I'll patch it with plastic,
And good old duct tape!

We may not be eating steak ,
A couple of times a week.
But the casserole is tasty,
And though made quite hasty,
It even has some ground beef!

We don't often get to the cinema,
But the DVD works just fine.
And I won't miss the best parts,
When my bladder quickstarts ,
Best of all, there's no long lines!

You rich folks can all babble,
About how it's so rough for you.
All we've known is hard scrabble,
And it's taught us a thing or two.

While the rich are in a panic,
With bills up to their neck,
crying it can't get much worse,
There's one thing we know,
Is you really can sew,
A sow's ear into a silk purse!
