55 lighted candles officially confirmed that I was promoted to senior status. FREEDOM, 50% discounted airfares, express public services. After my short honeymoon, I soon discovered, that D-O-M the last three characters of FREEDOM, meant Do Or Mull over. Freedom had to be earned.
For the next six months I encountered confusion, boredom and desperation without any hint of a spark, hope or direction to ignite my passion or zeal.
Then, to my delight, while on a trip, I spilled out my doubts to an old friend. She came back with a book, that she’d just purchased, entitled 'Sensational after 60' by Shirley Mitchell with Jane Rubietta.
The first chapter was both inspiring and challenging. The questionnaire at the end immediately churned my emptiness with choices- to be sensational or to remain complacent. I was challenged to redefine my life, to stretch out of my comfort zone and celebrate life in a creative way.
One morning, during quiet time, a long forgotten dream surfaced. Immediately, a gush of adrenaline ignited all the burnt out passion with excitement and new beginnings. Swiftly the wheels of change began turning. I was chauffeured to a website 'Looking for Serious Writers -part time or full time’ advertisement. I immediately submitted my application together with a sample item. A reply from The Advertiser placed me on ninth moon. I gulped the overflow of words jumping onto my monitor, flowing like wine long forgotten in an underground cellar.
FREEDOM, my new IBM, rocketed me further into cyberspace to an amazing resource centre, Writing.com, a centre with unbelievable freebies. Here, I met up with thousands of soul mates travelling on the same journey. The place was packed with mentors. Without hesitation I joined up, opened an account and began writing a short poem about nature and received an encouraging review with a surprise 100 gift points. My mail box was flooded with resourceful newsletters, that I could not decide which to open first.
WDC taught me to set lifetime and personal goals. It gave me a better perspective, purpose and direction. The first week went by smoothly. Each morning, I would drink in WDC BREAKFAST JUICE, a concoction of so many interesting and helpful tips and tricks of the trade. The second week, though, "Doubt", a nasty, wretched witch, crushed in, flashing her black wand packed with sarcastic words. I watched her creating havoc and unbelief deep within me. 'Are you making the right choice?' 'Do you have what it takes to get to your goal?' She even reeled out a video of my life. One with no dateline to catch; no headaches; sore fingers; tensed shoulders or cramped feet.
I would have thrown in the towel had it not been for the sincere help from friends I'd made on WDC. It is my sincerest wish that my short story will encourage you find out more about WDC and see what it can do for you. It's just a click away on Google - writing.com Good Luck!
