Urdu:  Larazta ray mera dil zehmat e mehr e darakhshaan per
          Maen houn wo qatra e shabnum keh ho khaar e biaanbaan per

English:=== Like a drop of dew on a desert thorn
                  For death I wait for the sun in the morn
                                            -

Urdu:  Na chhorhi hazrat e Yusuf nay yaan bhee khaana'aaraaie
          Sufaidi deeda e Yaqoob ki phirti hay zindaan per

English:=== When the light went out of Jacob's eye
                  To the dungeon of Joseph it went to pry
                                            -

Urdu:  Fanataaleem e dars baikhudi houn us zamaanay say
          Keh Majno laam alif  likhta tha deewaar e dabistaan per

English:=== I've known this, Romeo, since you were a boy
                  That you one day your love will destroy
                                            -

Urdu:  Faraaghat kis qadar rehti mujhay tashweesh e merhum say
          Bahum ger sulheh kertay paaraha e dil namakdaan per

English:=== If I cry and cry, it's not my fault
                  She's always rubbing in my wound the salt
                                            -

Urdu:  Naheen aqleem e ulfat maen koie toomaar e naaz aisa
          Keh pusht e chashm say jis ki na howay mohr unwaan per

English:=== Between a lover and a gal is a great divide
                  For the one has meekness and the other pride
                                              -

Urdu:  Mujhay ab daekh ker abr e shafaqaalood yaad aaya
          Keh furqat maen teri aatish barasti hay gulistaan per

English:=== Oh, when at dawn the sky is on fire
                  The pain of her absence is also very dire
                                              -

Urdu:  Ba juz perwaaz e shouq e naaz kya baaqi raha ho ga
          Qayaamat ik hawa e tund hay khaak e shaheedaan per

English:=== When the lovers die and lie in the dust
                  Their wishes and urges remain robust
                                                -

Urdu:  Na larh naaseh say GHALIB, kya hua ger us na shiddat ki
          Hamaara bhee toe aakhir zoar chalta hay gareebaan per

English:=== Whether I rip my clothes or tear my hair
                  O GHALIB, this pain I'll simply have to bear
