Blood flowed between Elora's fingers as she clutched at her chest. Elora looked at her friend in shocked disbelief.

Shadow smiled; his naked sword still glistening with her blood. Elora made no move for her own blade. “Make sure you do it right this time,” she said defiantly.

Shadow smiled as he raised his sword.

Elora felt the blade bite deep in her neck, before darkness engulfed her.

“You did it?” Hewen sounded sceptical.

Shadow emptied the contents of his bag on the table. Elora’s head rolled to face Hewen with accusing eyes.

A slow clap echoed round the chamber. “See I told you, this potion works on anyone,.” Lord Newin said.

“But he is a half breed, what guarantee have I it will work on humans? If it is so good why do you offer it to me? Surly you could make more using it?”

“He just killed his best friend without hesitation, what more proof do you need that it works? As to my generosity, I don’t want to run the world.”

“Never understood that need to control the world myself. I have enough fun with a single household,” Shadow said, interrupting them.

“Silence slave.” Lord Newin snapped.

“No.” Shadow replied. “You heard enough yet Elora?”

“Plenty, thank the merciful gods.”

“This was a trick? I …” Newin demanded.

"We knew Hewin was involved, just as we knew he needed help." Shadow said.

“You have to love immortality! By the way, your spy saw correctly, that is, was, my head, so don’t concern yourself with his loyalties right now. You have much bigger problems to deal with.” Elora said, this time her sword was drawn.
