Urdu:  Aabroo kya khaak us gul ki keh gulshan maen naheen
          Hay gareebaan nang e pairaahan jo daaman maen naheen

English:=== When not in the garden, a flower is lost
                  O don't you pluck it; just think of the cost
                                            -

Urdu:  Zoaf say aey girya kuchh baaqi meray tan maen naheen
          Rang ho ker urh gaya jo khoon keh daman maen naheen

English:=== Your tears, O lover, you need not dread
                  The blood in your heart is meant to be shed
                                              -

Urdu:  Ho gaay haen jamey ajza e nigaah e aaftaab
          Zarray us kay ghar ki deewaaroun kay rozan maen naheen

English:=== You're a speck of dirt that's seen by none
                  Unless you shine in the beam of the sun
                                              -

Urdu:  Kya kahoun taareeki e zindaan e gham, andhaer hay
          Punba noor e subhey say kum jis kay rozan maen naheen

English:=== The dungeon of sorrow is deadly and dark
                  Of hope in it there's not even a spark
                                            -

Urdu:  Ronaq e hasti hay ishq e khaanaweeraansaaz say
          Anjuman bai shamay hay ger barq kharman maen naheen

English:=== Oh, what's a lover if he does not yearn?
                  And what's a fire if it does not burn?
                                            -

Urdu:  Zakhm silwaanay say mujh per chaarajooie ka hay ta'an
          Ghair samjha hay keh lazzat zakhm e sozan maen naheen

English:=== Your wounded heart, O leave it alone
                  It's there to bleed and not be sewn
                                            -

Urdu:  Bus keh haen hum ik bahaar e naaz kay maaray huay
          Jalwa e gul kay siwa gard apnay mudfan maen naheen

English:=== When a hapless lover does go to his grave
                  For a glimpse of his flower he still does crave
                                              -

Urdu:  Qatra, qatra ik hayoola hay nayay nasoor ka
          Khoon bhee zoaq e dard say faarigh meray tan maen naheen

English:=== And remains he always true to his creed
                  And his wounded heart does bleed and bleed               
                                              -

Urdu:  Lay gaie saaqi ki nakhwat qulzumaashaami meri
          Moaj e mai ki aaj rag meena ki gerdan maen naheen

English:=== And a lover doesn't care what anyone thinks
                  He goes to the bar and drinks and drinks
                                              -

Urdu:  Ho fishaar e zoaf maen kya naatawaani ki namood
          Qad kay jhuknay ki bhee gunjaaish meray tan maen naheen

English:=== And even when he grows very weak and old
                  He does not bend, and he does not fold
                                              -

Urdu:  Thi watan maen shaan kya GHALIB keh ho ghurbat maen qadr
          Baitakalluf houn wo musht e khas keh gulkhan maen naheen

English:=== And, GHALIB, in desert when he goes to roam
                  He finds a home away from his home
